What do I need to be able to produce insects with the Insect Breeding Module?
You need sufficient space, connection to water, electricity and internet access. And access to sufficient feedstock for the larvae. And you need qualified expertise from local Amusca partners.
How can I buy a Insect Breeding Module?
Amusca has licensed the production of the Amusca Breeding Modules to third parties: The Module Manufacturers. The modules are shipped directly from the production site to your location. The quality of the Module is guaranteed by the Manufacturer.
What are the dimensions of the Insect Breeding Module?
The standard Module consists of three 40- feet (12.2 m) High Cube containers. High-cube containers are similar in structure to standard containers, but taller. High-cube containers are 2.90 m tall and 2.44 m width.
Two containers are placed side by side and one container is placed on top. The total load of the containers in this position is 20 tonnes respectively 30 tonnes.
What is the expected lifetime of the Insect Breeding Module?
The modules consist of materials with different technical lifetimes. When properly maintained by qualified personnel the lifetime of the module will well exceed 10 years. The economical lifetime depends on external factors and our ability to improve the performance of the modules by using even more productive insects and improving feedstocks.
How are the modules supported?
The equipment support is taken care of by a local Amusca Equipment partner or by your technical department with Amusca certified staff members. The modules are designed to operate continuously. Therefor it is important to perform approximately every 18 months a short preventive maintenance program. Before the maintenance takes place Amusca will bring the insects in a state of wintersleep. Amusca monitors the performance of the modules continuously. If the module needs attention Amusca will signal you and the local Amusca Equipment partner. You may choose to contract the Amusca Equipment partner.
Is any additional equipment needed?
Silos are placed next to the modules. They will contain the feedstock for the insects.
The dimensions will vary with the feedstock you will use and the logistical frequency.
Is human assistance inside the operating modules needed?
No, the modules are designed to operate without your assistance so you are able to concentrate on your core business.
What is the nature and quantity of waste to be expected?
The actual waste of the process is limited to pupae and fly remains. Resulting from the natural life cycle of the Musca Domestica. Even with 6-8 million insects the waste stream is limited.
Is there a smell or even odor nuisance?
The system has been developed to avoid unpleasant smeels or odor nuisances. It is not expected that the modules produce unpleasant smells above the level of a poultry farm, an aquaculture farm or an animal farm producer.
Is a separator (always) necessary?
GMP+-grade raw materials are used in the Amusca system. It is therefore not necessary to separate the larvae with the residual substrate. The residual material can also be provided as animal feed. The value is higher, thanks to this, than when it is separated from the larvae and sold as compost (like other insect growers have to do). The crude fibre content is lower than is necessary according to the welfare rules and is thanks to this not restrictive.
